A patient is accused of stealing an Acadian ambulance away from emergency providers and avoided police on an on-and-off chase that ended after 60 miles, according to police a report by WAFB.

Authorities say Jermie McCurley somehow slipped into the ambulance’s driver’s cabin and drove off. McCurley refused to pull over for police and authorities ended the pursuit hoping to stop McCurley from driving erratically.

McCurley made his way to Baton Rouge, where he is accused of crashing into two Louisiana State Police vehicles. WAFB reports he was arrested and taken to a hospital.

It is expected McCurley will be charged when he is released from the hospital.
