IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho — With a hunter hurt on a remote mountain, and no medevac available, first responders used the next best thing available.
A mule.
KTVB-TV reports on the September 28 rescue expedition to rescue the hunter thrown from his pack mule.
Rescuers medicated and stabilized the hunter before balancing him in the saddle using straps to hold him upright, according to the report.
After a three-hour ride back, the hunter was brought by an ambulance to a local hospital before being transferred to a Boise trauma center.
The hunter is still recovering from his injuries, according to the report, which included broken ribs, spinal fractures, internal bleeding and lung damage.
