MO Paramedic Paralyzed in Ambulance Wreck

A paramedic with the Joachim-Plattin (MO) Ambulance District was left paralyzed after a suspected drunk driver slammed into his ambulance.

Erik Bedwell was in the back of the ambulance tending to a patient Sunday when the crash occurred. The 27 year old suffered a severed a spinal cord and was left paralyzed from the waist down, KSDK-TV reports.

Another paramedic, Capt. Greg Maguire, suffered a concussion and a spinal injury while driving the rig. He underwent a successful surgery is hopes to be released from the hospital in the next few days, according to the report.

The patient suffered a fractured pelvis.

Charges have not been filed against the driver who hit them.
