NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla. — New Smryna Beach Fire Rescue authorities are crediting an off duty firefighter and paramedic for saving an 84-year-old man’s life.
Off duty firefighter Billy Crapps was grabbing a cup of coffee Sunday when he smelled smoke at a nearby residence and auto parts shop. He called 911 and helped 84-year-old Al Sanford out of the home. When the ambulance arrived, paramedic Mike Sanford realized the elderly man coming out of the burning home was his grandfather.
