A man who allegedly stole an ambulance and crashed it into gas pumps at a convenience store in Cherokee County, Texas, on Thursday afternoon is expected to face charges, according to a report.
The man, who has not been identified, was airlifted to the hospital with unknown injuries. Police say the man walked out of CHI St. Luke’s Memorial Lufkin and stole the ambulance from the emergency room parking lot of San Augustine County EMS. The San Augustine EMS crew were inside the hospital with a patient at the time.
Police were notified of the stolen ambulance around 12:40 p.m. and began a pursuit on Loop 287. The man headed north to U.S. 69 and continued toward Pollok at speeds of around 80 mph.
The ambulance crashed at Kim’s, located at the intersection of Hwy. 69 and Loop 343.
Officials said warrants are expected to be served on the man later, once his injuries have been addressed.
The investigation is ongoing.
