Bonita Springs, Fla. — Bonita Fire Department officials would like to take over ambulance services and strip Lee County EMS of EMS transports in Bonita Springs. Instead, Bonita Fire Department would like their first responders to transport patients directly to the hospital. They cite a two-and-a-half-minute lag time for Lee County EMS crews to respond and a potential savings of $600,000 for taxpayers. Next, commissioners will seek a recommendation from a specially appointed judge before voiting, but both sides remain optimistic.
