An ambulance responding to an emergency call slammed head-on into another vehicle in Georgia Thursday morning, leaving an EMS provider dead and another person in critical condition, according to reports.

The crash involved an ambulance with Central EMS ambulance, a private EMS provider in Forsyth County, Forsyth County News reported. The newspaper reported four people were involved in the crash.

Georgia State Patrol told WSB-TV the ambulance was traveling on State Route 20 around 7 a.m. when it went in the center lane to pass other traffic.

A truck traveling in the opposite direction slammed on its brakes to let the ambulance pass, causing a Ford Mustang behind the truck to swerve into the center lane.

The Mustang and the ambulance then collided head-on.

Both the EMS provider and the Mustang driver were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The EMS provider, identified as 57-year-old Gina Ayers, died from her injuries.

Another EMT, 31-year-old Kristi Adams, had minor injuries in the crash.

The Mustang’s driver, 48-year-old Blanco Fermin Rodolfo, is facing charges in connection to the crash.

The ambulance did not have a patient on board at the time of the crash.

“Gina was an extraordinarily dedicated EMT and was a respected member of the Forsyth County 911 response team,” Central EMS wrote in a statement. “She joined the Central EMS family in 2011 and celebrated her 12 anniversary with the company on November 9. She dedicated her life to EMS since the day she was certified as an EMT in 2010.

“Please keep Gina’s husband, Forsyth County Deputy Sheriff Tony Saindzier, and their two adult daughters, Abigail and Corinne, in your prayers as they go through this very tough time. They will need the strength and support of our entire team as we grieve the loss of Gina together.”

Police continue to investigate the crash.
