Elderly Man Steals Michigan Ambulance

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. (WOOD) – A 72-year-old man is undergoing a mental evaluation after he allegedly stole an ambulance that went to his house on a medical call.

Sunday afternoon, police said, an ambulance crew was sent to the man’s apartment on Laura Lane to deal with a sore throat. The ambulance crew went into the apartment, but the man wasn’t found.

They then heard the siren and saw the ambulance being driven away.

The man then allegedly drove the ambulance at a top speed of 70 mph to a pizza restaurant at Michigan and Custer. A Battle Creek police officer found the man inside, and they said he had the ambulance keys in his pocket.

He’s being evaluated at Summit Pointe.
