SULLIVAN, Ind. — State police say a woman was killed when she drove into the path of an ambulance on a southwestern Indiana highway.
The Knox County ambulance was making a patient transfer to an Indianapolis hospital without its emergency lights or siren on when the crash happened Thursday afternoon on U.S. 41 a couple miles north of Sullivan.
Police say 66-year-old Deanna Mills of Hymera was crossing the highway from a county road when she failed to stop. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 86-year-old ambulance patient was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for suspected internal injuries suffered in the wreck and his original health problem. The driver, a paramedic and a nurse aboard the ambulance were taken to Sullivan County Community Hospital for treatment.
