Driver Dies in Ambulance Crash in Bennington

BENNINGTON – One person is dead, another severely injured, after a rescue squad vehicle crashed while on a call. It happened around 3:30pm Monday afternoon in Bennington.

Police say the emergency crew was transporting a 60-year old patient from the Health Center to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center when it happened. Police say the driver of the rescue vehicle, Dale Long, 48, was driving on Route 9, when he veered to the right side of the road, before the vehicle hit a truck stopped at an intersection. The emergency vehicle then continued off the road and hit a tree.
