DETROIT (WDIV) – The first group of donated public safety vehicles were presented to Detroit’s police chief and the city’s fire commissioner on Thursday.
The presentation was held at downtown’s Hart Plaza, and included a short vehicle procession along Woodward Avenue from Campus Martius to the riverfront.
Bing, Penske Automotive Group chief Roger Penske and other city business leaders were there to present the vehicles.
Several businesses earlier this year pledged $8 million to help the city pay for the new fleet of emergency vehicles, including 23 EMS units and 100 police cars.
The other donors include Quicken Loans Inc., General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Chrysler Group LLC and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
