According to a report from WJBF, the city of Augusta, Georgia, and ambulance service Gold Cross have been working to finalize a contract for the past several months, but city commissioners will not discuss the terms in public, and it seems that more work on the terms is needed.
In the deal, Gold Cross would commit a minimum number of on-duty ambulances and tracking systems to improve response times, but some city leaders say the contract isn’t ready for commissioners to approve.
Currently, one issue is the city subsidy paid to Gold Cross, which the city pays $650,000 annually.
The proposed contract does not include a new amount, but earlier this year, a requested subsidy was an increase to $1.6 million.
