Anne Arundel County Fire Department Loses Over 10,000 Ambulance Transport Records

An attorney’s request for a client’s patient-care report last spring led to the discovery that more than 10,000 ambulance-transport records were missing from the county Fire Department’s electronic reporting system.

The records were lost on a $274,000 reporting program the county purchased in July 2005 – despite the fact the state offers a similar filing system for free.

It took three years to implement the program and cost an extra $108,716 in county funds to maintain it between 2007 and 2009, said Division Chief Michael Cox, a county Fire Department spokesman.

And after just one year of use, serious flaws in the system were discovered.
