OAKLAND, Calif. — Workers at a major Bay Area ambulance service on Monday said the company is threatening to layoff 170 workers and shut down operations. They said American Medical Response wants them to take 25 percent pay cuts as well as reductions in their benefits.
AMR workers also said the company will walk away from its contracts at several hospitals without concessions. Those hospitals reportedly include Valley Medical Center, Childrens Hospital in Oakland, and John Muir Medical Center, among others.
