According to a report from FOX40, the Sacramento (CA) Fire Department (SFD) said five people were hurt after an America West Ambulance rear-ended a white truck Monday morning, setting off a chain-reaction, multi-vehicle accident just after 7:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes on Highway 50, just before the 59th Street overpass.
Driver Asa Kania’s dash camera captured the crash as it happened. The video also shows a moving truck that flipped on its side.
Video shows the driver of the box truck climbing out after the crash. The driver said he, his co-worker, and his 6-year-old son were all in the truck at the time of the crash. Although they were hurt in the crash, he said they are all doing OK now.
California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers investigating the cause of the crash said that the people involved claim other drivers were texting while driving, but they cannot confirm those claims. The CHP is reminding all drivers on Highway 50 that the speed limit is 55 mph in construction zones.
