Ambulance Flips in NC after Hitting Icy Patch, Patient Later Dies at Hospital

One patient died and two EMS providers were hurt when a private ambulance in North Carolina hit a patch of black ice and overturned down an embankment, according to a report.

The ambulance belonged to METZ Medical Transport, WNCN reports. The crash occurred around 4 a.m. on Interstate 87 near Exit 13 for Knightdale Boulevard.

Wake County EMS spokesperson Brian Brooks said the METZ ambulance was transporting the patient to Duke University for a cardiac procedure. The patient went into cardiac arrest while being taken to WakeMed after the crash and later died at the hospital.

The two EMS providers were taken to the hospital in stable condition.
