Ambulance Explodes in Calif. Mall Parking Lot

EL CAJON, Calif. — An explosive fire gutted an unoccupied ambulance parked at an East County mall Thursday afternoon, authorities reported. The non-injury blaze in front of a Walmart store at Westfield Parkway Plaza was reported shortly after 4 p.m., a Heartland Fire & Rescue dispatcher said.

Engine crews were able to quickly douse the flames, which destroyed the ambulance. No other damage was immediately reported. 10News learned an electrical problem inside the vehicle somehow caused several oxygen tanks to explode.No injuries were reported.
