EAGLE, Colo. — The Western Eagle County Ambulance District is much more visible these days. Literally.
The district has instituted a new visibility safety program for vehicles and personnel.
Based on European models, three of the district s vehicles now feature distinctive reflective yellow and blue chevron stripes on the back, and lines on the side. Doors on the ambulances are equipped with blinking lights. A flip of a switch activates blinking directional arrows, to move traffic away from accident sites. A discreet reflective white line outlines the shape of the vehicles.
The emergency vehicles also carry traffic calming signs.
Ambulance workers will be wearing the same reflective colors on their windbreaker coats and fleece jackets.
We re annoyingly visible, says WECAD Chief Chris Montera. And in the emergency services business, that s a good thing.
