Ambulance Crashes into Pond, TX Firefighters Swim Ashore to Render Aid

Five people were hurt Thursday, including three firefighters, in a crash between an ambulance and an SUV in Victoria, Texas, authorities said.

The ambulance ended up in a pond after the crash, forcing the firefighters inside to swim back to dry land to help the victims in another vehicle.

Police said the crash happened around 5 p.m. at the intersection of North Main Street and Spring Creek Drive.

Investigators said a 2018 Chevy Traverse with two people inside failed to yield to the right of way to the ambulance. The force of the crash caused the ambulance to leave the roadway and into a small field before it came to rest in a small pond.

The three firefighters in the ambulance swam to safety and immediately rendered aid to the two passengers in the Traverse.

All five people were taken to the hospital. The two passengers of the Traverse were transported to a San Antonio hospital with serious injuries.

The three firefighters sustained minor injuries and have been released from the hospital.
