Sanford AirMed Announces News Specialty Service

Sanford AirMed in Bismarck, an air ambulance helicopter service that provides medical transport to critically ill or injured patients, is now offering specialty neonatal intensive care unit and high-risk obstetrics specialty teams. These specialty teams, which were chosen for their expertise, will improve care for high-risk OB patients and assist in the timely transport of newborns to the appropriate medical facility in central and western North Dakota, including parts of South Dakota and Montana.

The NICU team consists of two highly trained NICU nurses who are available for flights 24/7. When in flight, they will be accompanied by a flight paramedic. The OB team consists of a flight nurse and paramedic. A maternal nurse will accompany them when available.

Unlike other air ambulance services, Sanford AirMed’s fleet consists of fixed wing, rotor wing and specialty teams and operates a fleet of four helicopters and four airplanes from bases in Bismarck, Fargo, Sioux Falls and Bemidji. With a dedicated communications center in Sioux Falls, Sanford AirMed can launch a helicopter within 10 minutes of accepting the flight from the referring hospital or first responder unit.

Sanford AirMed will transport patients to the facility of their choice or to the nearest appropriate medical facility. The air ambulance service can be activated by hospitals and first responders by calling (800) 437-6886.
