FDNY’s Special Vehicle Used in CO Incident

There’s one MRTU assigned to FDNY’s EMS command. It’s stationed in the Bronx at EMS Station 20 and dispatched by Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) through a pre-designated response matrix for MCIs. The MRTU is a specially configured patient-care vehicle, equipped to provide oxygen therapy for up to 30 seated patients.

The MRTU can also be used to transport up to 28 seated patients. It’s usually assigned to the treatment sector during MCI operations and utilized in rehab sectors during third alarm or greater fires. FDNY EMS is currently in the process of securing funding to purchase and deploy a second MRTU.
