Family of Critically Injured South Carolina Paramedic Speaks Out

ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) – Paramedic Crew Chief Sgt. Tessie Smith’s family said Friday that she is still fighting for her life after being hit by a suspected drunk driver while responding to a call in Florence.

Florence police said a truck driven by Jody Heglar hit the ambulance Smith was riding in Wednesday morning. The impact left most of the cab of the ambulance crushed. Heglar is now charged with felony DUI and driving with a suspended license.
