Fairfax County Board to Review Fire Official’s Facebook Posts

FAIRFAX, Va. (WUSA9) – The Fairfax County Board Supervisors will take up a personnel matter concerning Guy Morgan Tuesday morning.

Morgan is the professional standards officer at the fire department who was responsible for conducting investigations into workplace complaints. Fire chief Richard Bowers placed Morgan on administrative leave Friday after the discovery of lewd pictures and content on Morgan’s Facebook page.

The pictures came to light after a sexual harassment lawsuit was filed last week against Captain John Bruley by firefighter Maggie Hernandez.

Hernandez accuses Morgan of facilitating retribution against her in the form of a reprimand.

The suit was filed a few weeks after the suicide of firefighter Nicole Mittendorff.  She had been slandered online in vicious, sexist comments by people who claimed to be Fairfax firefighters.

Chief Bowers began an investigation into who wrote the online posts. The man assigned to lead that investigation was Guy Morgan, who himself has made many sexist comments about women on his Facebook page.

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Sharon Bulova says the county does not tolerate that kind of behavior from people who are responsible for making ethical decisions. She says a person in that position is held to a higher standard.
