GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. — Great Barrington police and federal aviation officials are investigating the cause of an airplane crash which occurred near the town’s airport early Monday morning. The pilot and passenger were injured.
According to police, the identities of the two victims are being withheld at this time, pending further investigation into the matter. But a police report did say the airplane’s pilot and passenger were transported to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield to be treated for their injuries.
Seekonk Cross Road will be closed during this investigation of this crash, which took place just short of the runway at Walter J. Koladza Airport around 12:50 a.m.
Members of the Great Barrington Police and Fire Departments, and Southern Berkshire Ambulance squad were all dispatched to the scene to find a heavily damaged plane, a 1978 Piper PA-28-181.
Today, inspectors from the Federal Aviation Administration, Massachusetts Aeronautical Commission and Massachusetts State Police will assist Great Barrington authorities in this crash investigation.
