Local leaders in Penn Hills have honored late paramedic Nick Theofilis, who died in the line of duty two years ago, by presenting a $500,000 check to Penn Hills EMS to fund a new ambulance dedicated to his memory, WPXI reports.
Theofilis, 23, passed away on Nov. 27, 2022, after suffering cardiac arrest while driving an ambulance, which led to a crash. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries. His partner, who sustained head trauma in the incident, survived.
The new ambulance, expected to enter service next year, will bear Theofilis’ name and the number 386—the same number as the vehicle he was operating on the night of the accident.
