Acadian Wins Inc. Magazine’s Hire Power Award

December 13, 2012–Inc. magazine has ranked Acadian number 18 on its inaugural list of Hire Power awards. The award includes all of Acadian’s subsidiaries: Acadian Ambulance Service, Acadian Monitoring Services, Air Med, Executive Aircraft Charter Service, National EMS Academy and Safety Management Systems.

This exclusive list, featuring only 100 businesses nationwide, honors companies that have helped rebuild the economy by creating a substantial amount of jobs over the past few years. Acadian was awarded number 18 overall, and ranked number one in Louisiana companies and number four in the healthcare industry for job creation. Acadian has added 773 jobs since 2008, bringing its employee total to over 3,800.

Acadian’s impressive employee growth is due in part to Acadian Ambulance’s continued expansion into Texas markets, the tremendous growth of Safety Management Systems and the company’s adoption of an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Under this plan, instituted in 1993, the men and women of Acadian became employee-owners with 80 percent of the company value in stock available to them.

“The heart of Acadian has always been the employee-owners,” said Richard Zuschlag, CEO and chairman of Acadian. “We succeed as a company because of the dedication, motivation and participation of our people. Because we employ great people who help our business thrive, we are fortunate and able to enjoy constant growth and in turn, welcome even more people into our Acadian family.”

In 1971, Zuschlag co-founded the company as an ambulance service committed to providing the highest level of emergency medical care and transportation possible. In the past decade, the company has expanded to include six subsidiaries and a diverse suite of services in health, safety, and transportation.

Inc. magazine has honored Acadian previously, most recently in August on its Inc. 500|5000 list. Acadian has spent the last six years on this list, which recognizes the nation’s fastest growing private companies. In 2006, Zuschlag was awarded Honorable Mention for Inc.’s Entrepreneur of the Year Award, while Acadian’s employees received the first annual Bernard A. Goldhirsch Courage Award for their response during Hurricane Katrina. The company also holds the coveted Inc. Magazine/MCI National Technology Leadership Award, given annually for outstanding use of technology in providing customer service.
