Last fall, the East Boise County Ambulance District sought voter approval to dissolve its existing district and establish a new one with a higher levy rate to address increasing operational costs.
Voters approved the measure, but the additional funds won’t be available until January 2026, KTVB reports.
In the meantime, the district faces a crisis. Three of its four ambulances are out of service due to critical mechanical issues, including a fire in a heating module and a damaged axle.
The mountainous district has had to rely on a two-wheel-drive loaner ambulance, which is not ideal for the rugged terrain.
A private donor recently stepped in with a $25,000 contribution to fund urgent repairs.
