Boat Explosion Near Popular Seafood Cafe in Broward (FL) Kills 1, Injures 4

A boat explosion in Dania Beach left one man dead and four others with severe burns, according to reports.

At about 4:30 p.m. Friday, Broward County Sheriff’s Fire Rescue arrived at Nautical Ventures Marina on Ravenswood Road, Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami reported.

Investigators told the station that the boat was delivered to the marina for work before the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. The show opens Oct. 30 and runs through Nov. 3

As five workers began fueling, the boat exploded, investigators said.

Nautical Ventures Marina is close to the popular Rustic Inn Crabhouse on Anglers Avenue along the Dania Cut-off Canal.

“I was waiting on a table” at Rustic Inn Crabhouse, about a block north of the marina, “when we just heard this massive boom,” server Bryan Harrison told the station.

“By the time we ran outside, we [saw] all the ambulance, fire trucks and they were toting people off and a couple people they toted off didn’t look so good,” Harrison said.

Paramedics took four people to the hospital, all in critical condition. A fifth worker died at the marina, BSO told CBS News Miami.

Investigators haven’t said if the victims were marina employees, and they have not released names of the injured or the person who died.

The restaurant remains open and the Miami Herald is reaching out to the marina.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
