Bethel is mourning the death of a constable who served the community for over 40 years.
Constable Doug Ketcham died Monday after suffering an apparent heart attack while on duty, according to Town Supervisor Dan Sturm.
Ketcham, in his early 70s, was discovered unresponsive inside the Bethel EMS building. Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corp. EMS medics, returning from a call, immediately began CPR and requested further assistance. Ketcham was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
“This Constable was a great man who had helped us on many EMS calls, offered assistance when we needed it most, and had our backs countless times. His dedication and support will never be forgotten, Bethel Volunteer Ambulance Corp. said in a Facebook post.
