Lt. Mark Myers, a 20-year veteran of the Coral Springs-Parkland Fire Department, understands the value of Black History Month and how Black history paved the way for his career.

“It means a month of celebration for the sacrifices the people of my color had to go through before my time. I’m able to be a firefighter because of them,” he said.

Myers, who has received numerous awards for saving lives, was also Paramedic of the Year for Broward County in 2009 and is currently an instructor for the Coral Springs Regional Institute of Public Safety.
