27 Hurt In Georgia Hayride Accident

DOUGLAS, Ga. – Two people were in serious condition after a car struck a trailer carrying a church group on a hayride in Douglas, injuring 27 people.

Pastor Hilton Martin told the Waycross Journal-Herald that the accident happened Friday night when a car hit a trailer being pulled slowly along Route 64. The names of the victims were not immediately available. All are expected to survive.

The pastor said the trailer was supposed to be on the road a short distance before turning off. He said the hayride’s driver saw the car approaching from behind but thought there was enough time to safely travel the span.

The impact tossed one victim into the road. Another person suffered a leg that was broken in three places and required surgery.
