Where Are the Ambulances? Texas Sheriff Wants to Know

San Patricio County, Texas — The top cop of this Texas county reportedly says private ambulances are not responding to emergency calls when requested.

Sheriff Oscar Rivera said Allegiance Ambulance Service and Air Med are not coming to 911 for mutual aid assistance. He told KIII-TV the dispatchers from these private ambulance companies their units are out of service or unavailable when there’s no good reason to be.

“We know their ambulances aren’t out of service,” Rivera said.

An Allegiance spokeswoman told the station they will look into the sheriff’s issues. A spokesperson for Air Med reportedly told the station they do not refuse mutual aid requests unless their vehicle actually out of service.
