Southwest Webster Ambulance, one of three EMS departments in Webster County, is receiving $300,000 in federal funding.
The grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, will be used to construct a new facility to replace the current overcrowded building, KCCI reports.
The funds will be administered through an interest-free loan from the Webster Calhoun Cooperative Telephone Association.
Currently, the department operates solely on the efforts of 12 volunteers, but officials also aim to enhance services, including adding paramedic support.
A proposed tax levy, set for a vote in March, could provide an additional $214,000 annually for EMS operations if approved, KCCI reports.
Construction on the new building is expected to be completed by fall.
