GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — EMS crews here are giving away envelopes detailing opioid aftercare treatment for those revived from an overdose but do not want to go to the hospital, according to WYFF-TV.
Greenville County is the only county in South Carolina to issue these information packets, but a group wants to make it a statewide initiative.
“A lot of these patients, when they wake up from an overdose and they do not want to go to the hospital, we have to respect their medical autonomy,” said Phil Head, of Greenville County EMS. “And to be able to connect them with these resources gives them the capability to be able to seek out help and assistance to combat addiction.”
First responders in the county administered 790 doses of Narcan last year, the station reported.
