The Salem Fire Department has extended job offers to 52 medics as it prepares to assume control of the city’s ambulance services from Falck in July.
Deputy Fire Chief Kyle Amsberry said over 340 people applied for the positions, according to the Salem Reporter.
The transition follows the Salem City Council’s decision to bring the service in-house after the fire department reported Falck’s failure to meet contractual staffing and response time obligations.
Training for new recruits will begin in February, with academies running through spring and field training completed by early June. Of the 62 Falck employees who applied, 28 have been offered positions with the city.
