Perryton (TX) Transfers EMS from Fire Department to Hospital

Perryton will transfer its EMS system on January 1st, 2024 from its joint fire and EMS department to the Ochiltree General Hospital.

The hospital will operate the service with a third-party contractor, KFDA reports. The move is to address staffing shortages that came to light during 2023 tornadoes that struck the town.

The change aims to enhance staffing levels and ensure round-the-clock basic services for the community. The city manager emphasized that while the operations will still be funded by taxpayers, the third-party contractor will be responsible for hiring and training personnel, KFDA reported.
