Penfield town leaders have chosen Penfield Volunteer Ambulance to continue providing EMS services after a thorough review of proposals.
The decision follows months of service evaluation, with Penfield Volunteer Ambulance and Monroe Ambulance responding to a request for proposal (RFP) by the November 18 deadline, WROC reports.
During a town board meeting, members reviewed each agency’s strengths and challenges. Ultimately, Penfield Volunteer Ambulance was favored due to its existing contracts facilitating ambulance staging and a significantly lower subsidy requirement compared to Monroe Ambulance, which lacked a plan for geographic coverage at the time.
The board unanimously voted to negotiate a 3-to-5-year contract with Penfield Volunteer Ambulance, ensuring consistent and cost-effective EMS services for the community. Town Supervisor Tom Flaherty commended the progress made in the past year, reflecting on how the town overcame previous challenges in securing reliable EMS providers.
The decision secures a partnership that prioritizes community needs while keeping costs manageable for taxpayers.
