The role you’ll contribute:
Provides patients with support treatment, care, and evaluations prior to and during transportation.

Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Graduated from an EMT program
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) license required from the respective state board and/or respective state equivalent
Valid Class E State Driver’s License, or Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and driving record in accordance with facility policy.
Commercial Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO), or Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC), or Emergency Vehicle Operator Safety. Certificate must state 16 hours or an accompanying letter from the school certifying that the course taken and completed was 16 hours

Deputy Chief of EMS Training and Operations

The Deputy Chief of Training and Operations assists the Chief in coordinating the daily operations of the EMS District. As one of two Deputy Chiefs, they assist the Chief in the evaluation of staff performance and directing quality assurance and improvement activities to ensure quality patient and best practices in EMS operations. They will guide training, protocol, and procedure development in collaboration with providers, the Chief, and the Medical Director. They will assist the Chief in the daily management of the district which may include, but is not limited to staff scheduling, supply management, and maintenance concerns. They may liaise with County agencies, district municipalities, and the EMS Commission to represent district interests, and may respond to emergencies to provide operational or medical support. They may be asked to assume the role of the Chief in his or her absence.
The position is primarily a 40-hour, weekday position; However, the Deputy Chief frequently may need to attend evening meetings, council, board meetings, and weekend events, and is responsible for 24-hour Officer-In-Charge (OIC) duties for the department that are shared with the Chief and the Deputy Chief of Administration. OIC duties require the Deputy Chief to be available by phone, within 15 minutes, to manage issues that may arise outside of scheduled admin hours.
This position reports to the EMS Chief.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Directs and coordinates the operations of the EMS District in cooperation with the EMS Chief. This includes planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating all activities of the department.
Provides direct supervision of the full-time paramedics, LTE paramedics, EMTs and interns.
Develops and implements policies and procedures.
Ensures compliance with HIPPA Guidelines.
Ensures that the EMS Service and all personnel meet applicable Federal, State, and local requirements.
Works with the Medical Director to develop department medical direction goals and medical protocols.
Responds to EMS calls and performs supervisor functions or appropriate first aid, lifesaving, and rescue techniques as needed.
Works with local union members to develop a fair and equitable work environment for the benefit of the employees and the district.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Position-specific Duties and Responsibilities
Works collaboratively with the Deputy Chief of Administration and the Medical Director on quality assurance/improvement of field skills and assessments.
Assists in coordinating scheduling, purchasing, and maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and supply inventory.
Manages training, in cooperation with the shift lieutenants, for field providers and partner agencies.
Develops Incident Action Plans (IAP) for events within the district and liaison with community partners for EMS support of other area events, such as participation in events at the Alliant Energy Center.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages and directs the actions of responders and office manager as a representative of the Chief. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include assisting with interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and Experience:
Associate degree, or higher
Graduate of an accredited paramedic program
Seven years of field experience as a full-time paramedic
Five years of supervisory experience, preferred.
Computer Skills:
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
Familiarity with inventory management software (i.e OperativeIQ)
Familiarity with patient records management software (i.e. Imagetrend Elite)
Maintain the following certifications and licenses:
Licensed State of Wisconsin Paramedic, or eligible for reciprocity
American Heart Association BLS CPR, or equivalent
American Heart Association ACLS, or equivalent
Valid State driver’s license
Maintain insurability with the department’s insurance carrier
NIMS 100,200,300,400,700,800 (within one year of hire)
EVOC/CEVO (within 6 months of hire)

Position Summary:
The OHSU/OIT EMS department is the only university-based EMS department in the state of Oregon educating leading EMS clinicians for over 50 years. Through the integration between the OHSU School of Medicine and Oregon Tech our students enjoy learning from and collaborating with some of the top educators, clinicians, and researchers on the west coast. The Department of EMS faculty and students split their time between the OHSU Marquam Hill Campus and the Oregon Tech Portland-Metro campus, however the administrative services and office locations for department faculty are located at the Oregon Tech Portland-Metro campus. This position has faculty appointments to both universities, Assistant/Associate Professor at Oregon Tech and Affiliate Faculty member at OHSU. The EMS department currently offers EMT education, a Paramedic AAS degree, Critical Care Paramedic education, and a Bachelor’s of EMS Management degree.
The duties and responsibilities of the EMS Chair include the following:
Lead departmental growth with respect to students, faculty, programs, resources and academic quality.
Create and facilitate the implementation of a strategic mission and vision for the department that seeks to recruit a diverse student body, elevates student success through increasing student retention and graduation, enhances departmental opportunities through successful partnerships, and contains costs effectively
Foster a departmental culture of communication, civility, collegiality, and respect for diversity.
Ensure that clear, consistent course goals and objectives are established by the department and meets accreditation standards and that those goals and objectives are periodically evaluated so that they are suited to the needs of students.
Manage the department’s staffing and financial resources in consultation with the dean, Institutional Research, and Budget Offices. Advocate for departmental needs with university administration.
Give thoughtful review and comments to department faculty in areas which encourage pedagogical improvement , applied research, and service including during annual faculty planning and evaluations, promotion and tenure review, sabbatical leave applications, and other internally funded activities.
Encourage and mentor faculty to engage students in experiential learning activities.
Monitor and support student recruitment, enrollment and retention efforts within departmental programs in collaboration with Institutional Research and Strategic Enrollment Management.
Work closely with the Dean and the Advancement Office on activities that involve or have the potential to involve fundraising activities.
Develop and expand ties and relationships with appropriate partners (including industry, Office for Sponsored Projects, and community organizations) in order to increase opportunities for faculty professional development, student professional experiences and employment opportunities, and equipment donations.
Teach courses in the chair’s discipline as time permits.
Other duties may be assigned by the Dean based on strategic priorities of the college and university. The Department Chair will be based in Wilsonville, Oregon on the Portland-Metro campus.

Requirements
Qualification Requirements:
Current National or State Paramedic certification or equivalent (obtained and maintained throughout employment)
Master’s degree in related field
3 years’ experience working as a paramedic in a 911 system or other medical provider operating in emergency medical settings (e.g. ICU, critical care, ED, etc.)
Current ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS certifications or equivalent
Teaching experience in EMS or other area of medicine
Prior management or leadership experiences
An academic record to support the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor
Preferred Qualifications:
Prior experience with accrediting body
Experience in best teaching practices
Previous leadership of an academic department or as a program director
Experience developing or assisting in the development of new academic programs
Experience as a faculty member within a university that primarily offers undergraduate and masters programs
