The Grand Junction Fire Department is looking to hire Paramedics (Non-Fire Based). We have immediate openings and will be creating an eligibility list for open positions in the next few months. You will work a 3-4-4-3, 12hr work schedule with both night and day shifts available running a combination of 911 response and interfacility transports. Starting wage is between $24.78-$27.89 per hour with overtime opportunities available.
As a Paramedic, you will:
-Provide emergency medical care and advanced life support at emergency and accident scenes which may include
defibrillation, clearing airways, pulmonary ventilation, intubations, inserting IVs, splinting fractures, treating burns,
emergency surgical procedures, performing CPR and administering medication; inform physicians of patient
conditions.
-Performs activities required for and directly concerned with the prevention, control, or extinguishment of fires,
including such incidental non-firefighting functions as housekeeping, equipment maintenance, lecturing, attending
community fire drills, and inspecting buildings for fire hazards.
-Assume responsibility for EMS scene in the absence of higher level staff.
-Prepare, submit and maintain reports on EMS activities, incidents, accidents and other related information.
-Perform station maintenance; identify deficiencies in equipment and quarters; correct deficiencies when possible or
report to station officer.
-Operate, inspect and maintain emergency response equipment and vehicles.
-Obtain medical data including patient identification, medical history, type of accident or nature of illness, rescue
measures preceding emergency care, care given at the scene and during transport and changes in diagnostic signs.
-Participate in drills, training exercises, classes, and activities including but not limited to those related to emergency
medical service, fire and other related areas.
-Maintain skill levels, new equipment and procedure familiarization, and certifications which are relevant and/or
required for assigned responsibilities.
-Participate in public relations, fire/safety education activities, and fire prevention activities including station tours, fire
safety/fire suppression education away from the station, school education programs, group activities, fire drills
courtesy walk-through visits, and phone inquiries.
-Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements
What We’re Looking For:
-Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license.
-Possession of a valid National Registry EMT Paramedic or State of Colorado EMT-P certificate.
-Possession of CPR certificate, upon hire.
-Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate.
-Possession of a Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers certificate.
-Possession of certification in the National Incident Management System.
-Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, Hazardous Materials Awareness certificate.
-Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Driver Operator certificate.
Experience and Training Guidelines for a Paramedic:
-Two (2) years of experience in emergency medical services.
-High School Diploma or G.E.D.; supplemented by the ability to complete specialized training in emergency medical
services.

Paramedic LifeFlight II

Responsible for the care of critically ill patients transported by the LifeFlight Transport Program including patient care under the direction of a RN or Transport Physician which incorporates advanced assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and interventional skills. Oversees the maintenance and upkeep of the ambulance and its equipment including responding to requests for transport with all of LifeFlight’s vehicles, record keeping, data entry, and clerical support. Responsible for ongoing development of the LifeFlight program by attending and participating in meetings, in-services, committees, and completing projects. Accountable for driving the ambulances.
Job Specific Duties
Responsible for the care of critically ill patients transported under the direction of a RN or MD which incorporates assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, & interventional skills.
Administers ACLS/PALS/NRP medications and/or other medications as required per transport and Medical Director of the program.
Assists with inter-facility and intra-facility transfers of patients and attends to personal needs of patients/families with each transport.
Functions as a professional representative of the Nicklaus Children’s Hospital LifeFlight Transport Program on every shift.
Maintains and provides upkeep of MCHS ambulances, transport equipment, and supplies on every shift.
Performs and assists with assessment and vital signs with each patient contact.
Promotes corporate compliance within the framework of the Code of Business and Ethical Conduct with each shift.
Functions as the supporting team member for Critical Care rotor and fixed wing transports under the supervision of the RN.
Responsible for responding to requests for transport with all of LifeFlight’s ground vehicles, record keeping, data entry, and clerical support as assigned.
Responsible for ongoing development of the LifeFlight program by attending and participating in meetings, in-services, committees, and taking on and completing projects.
Provides continuous supervision, observation of behavioral health patients, and adheres to non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI).

Paramedic Active Florida Paramedic license required
Driver’s License Active and valid State of Florida driver’s license with an approved driving record pursuant to our policy and maintained throughout employment
American Heart Association (AHA) BLS – must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program American Academy of Pediatrics NRP – must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
Dept of Trans Medical Florida DOT Course (AAAMC) within 6 months of hire
Completion of EVOC course
CPI – Crisis Prevention Institute within 6 months hire
Trauma certification: PHTLS (Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support) or ITLS (International Trauma Life Support) within 60 days of hire
OTHER FP-C, NPT-C, or CCP-C certification
3-5 years Paramedic experience
1-3 years Experience driving an emergency vehicle
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
High school education or equivalent preferred
PALS/ACLS instructors preferred.
CCEMT-P preferred.
NREMT-P preferred.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Training as paramedic, medical corps preferred.
Available up to 2 hours prior to/after each scheduled shift.
Able to take 12 hours on-call per week every week.
