Position Snapshot:

Flexible hours with the option of 4 hour, 8 hour, or 12 hour shifts

Earn up to $41.00 per hour

(with base wage, per diem premium, and shift differentials)

Must have a valid Wisconsin Paramedic License or be Nationally Registered

Job Summary:

As a Paramedic you will assist in the execution of clinical trials according to specific study protocol.  This may include such duties as, but not limited to, AE/CM, drug administration/accountability, dose verification, performing Read Rebreathing procedures, collecting data points, and overall observation and monitoring of respiratory status and keeping the Principle Investigator of the study informed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collect Data points

Monitor respiratory status and keep PI informed.

Operate procedure software

Obtains and accurately documents structured subject medical, surgical and medication history

Administers study drug and any other protocol-required medications, while accurately ensuring the 5 Rights of Medication Administration (the right subject, the right drug, the right dose, the right route, and the right time)

Performs dose verification, assisting during dose administration to accurately verify subject identity and dosing labeling, as additional quality check.

Contributes and is accountable for secure and appropriate storage of all drug supplies after removing from pharmacy.

Records subject Adverse Events with proper escalation to medical or Charge Staff for evaluation and treatment as warranted.

Performs additional task list items as delegated and supervised by Charge Staff.

Reviews Study Specific Trainings and applicable protocols for a thorough understanding of the study procedures, as they apply to their role and ensures that Delegation of Authority/Training Log for each study is completed in a proper and timely manner.

Keeps abreast of SOPs, Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and ICH guidelines, state and national laws and ethical standards.

Observes and maintains all HIPAA, OSHA, and Exposure Control regulations and Emergency Response as required by applicable training.

Creates and maintains accurate records of all protocol activities and events, as delegated and trained.

Follows progress of volunteers and provides for their care, comfort and safety by attending to their needs during study participation.

Participates in quality assurance of clinical research projects and initiates the need for same as it impacts on clinical practice.

Field Paramedic

Williamson County EMS (Texas)

Georgetown, TX

Reporting directly to a Lieutenant or Commander, responsible for providing pre-hospital clinical medicine in response to 911 calls. Operates and maintains medical equipment and emergency vehicles.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Provides pre-hospital care based on Scope of Care

Operates standard equipment; such as stretchers, patient care monitors and diagnostic equipment

Operates Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicles under normal and emergency situations

Assures vehicles are adequately stocked and in proper working order

Maintains and troubleshoots medical equipment

Assess emergency scenes and gives direction to patients, first responders, and/or bystanders

Utilizes electronic communication including portable and mobile radios, electronic patient care records, and computer aid dispatching equipment

Extricates persons from vehicles, bends and lifts, and performs CPR for extended periods of time

Functions independently once credentialed by the Medical Director

Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas

Maintains credentialing by the Medical Director

Performs special duties as assigned

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle and emergency equipment under normal and emergency conditions without any equipment modifications specific to any individual operator

Position involves prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, lifting, climbing, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities

Position involves accessing patients on foot over rough terrain and obstacles

Position involves hearing audible sounds and speaking in a clear, understandable voice

Must be able to perform required medical skills and techniques, such as bandaging, splinting, establishing an IV, performing endotracheal intubation and other advanced airway techniques, manual defibrillation, pleural decompression, and pericardiocentesis

Must be able to read medication dosages on drug labels and syringes

Manatee County Emergency Medical Services is the primary 911-emergency response service to the citizens and visitors of Manatee County. We operate over 21 ALS and BLS units, consisting of ambulances, firefighter paramedics in fire apparatus, supervisory staff, and community paramedics. During 2022 these units responded to over 57,000 calls for service. We are a third service provider, meaning we are government run emergency medical system that is not fire department based. As an Emergency Medical Services Operations Assistant Chief, you will command the Operations Section of the Manatee County EMS Division.  This individual will manage all field operations and emergency responses of Manatee County EMS personnel/units. You will ensure adequate staffing and scheduling of personnel for day-to-day operations, as well as increased demands for service during peak call volumes.  The Operations Assistant Chief will assist the EMS Division Chief in the management and oversight of the EMS Division.

What You Will Do

Develop, motivate, and lead a high-performance Operations Leadership Team.

Oversees and coordinates adequate resource and staffing requirements for daily EMS Operations.

Demonstrate the highest degree of professionalism and customer service.

Contribute to EMS System decision making and working collaboratively with Senior EMS Leadership to strategically align division Goals and Strategy.

Responds to emergencies including field emergency response as a primary care provider, as a command member, and to observe system/provider performance. Responds to major events either in the field or as a member of the emergency operations center.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate will possess progressively responsible supervisory experience in a municipal 911 paramedic-level EMS system.

Must be thoroughly familiar with and be able to initiate and manage an emergency incident according to the National Incident Management System.

Poses strong organization, prioritization, analytical, and problem-solving skills in order to effectively manage area of responsibility and attain goals set.  Able to resolve difficult problems and situations.

Poses strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance necessary to successfully perform job responsibilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Pre-Employment Physical Requirements

Must successfully pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and department-approved Agility Test.

*Note: Safety Sensitive position requires random drug testing.                                      

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, Public Safety Administration, Business Administration, or related field required, with a clear pattern of professional and personal development.

A minimum of 5 years’ experience within EMS as a Certified Paramedic or healthcare related environment including at least 3 years progressive leadership (recent) experience in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity.

Current ACLS required.

Minimum of three (3) years management experience in a public emergency medical system; at least two (2) of which should be in a 911 response system operation.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Desired Skills/ Certifications

International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) certification, PEPP and/or PALS.

Completion of sixteen (16)-hour Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) or must satisfactorily complete within thirty (30) days of hire date.

Knowledge/Abilities/Skills

Must be thoroughly familiar with and be able to initiate and manage an emergency incident according to the National Incident Management System ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.

Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinate professional, supervisory, technical and/or support employees; ability to establish and maintain productive and harmonious working relationships with the public, employees, County agencies, and elected officials; ability to prepare technical and informative reports, ability to present complex information to varied audiences; ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion.

Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of modern pre-hospital emergency medical care methods.

Ability to effectively perform duties under varying and possibly extreme environmental and highly stressful conditions.

Skill in computer operations, including a specialized EMS operating system, and pertinent software applications, i.e., Word, Excel, etc.

Experience training new hires and existing staff, developing action plans and setting goals to enhance their strengths and improve their deficiencies, strong skills in critical care cases, triage, along with excellent team building skills.

Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, multi-task efficiently, work effectively in a team setting as well as independently, possess strong professional managerial, and communication skills, and demonstrate a sincere desire to exceed client expectations.
