Delivers basic/advanced/MICU/ life support and transports sick or injured persons to destination medical facility while working as a member of an MICU team. Responds to patient locations as assigned by dispatch and monitors communication equipment to maintain contact with dispatch. The EMT-Paramedic assists with triage duties and may assume care of all patients. Removes or assists in removal of victim(s) from accident scenes or catastrophes. Determines nature and extent of illnesses or injuries, or magnitude of incident, to determine procedure to be followed or need for additional assistance basing decisions on persons involved, patient or scene assessment and personal knowledge base as an EMT-Paramedic.
Administers Basic/Advanced/MICU/ life support at scene or in unit performing such activities as application of splints, administration of oxygen, treatment of wounds, artificial resuscitation, IV therapy, advanced airway procedures, monitoring of cardiac rhythms, defibrillation, transcutaneous pacing , synchronized cardioversion, and administration of certain medications. Treats patients in accordance with standards of care and operating procedures. Communicates with medical personnel at destination facility to arrange transfer of patient care and/or obtain further treatment instructions from the Emergency Physician
Assists destination facility personnel with a smooth transition of patient care and the relaying of pertinent information regarding patient. May assist personnel at destination facility with patient care once unit duties are complete.
Maintains vehicles, medical and communications equipment and replenishes unit stock levels as needed. May be required to assist in crowd control, protecting patient’s valuables, or performing other duties at scenes of major accidents. The EMT-Paramedic is responsible for individual growth and educational development and maintains professional contacts with patients, co-workers, family members and significant others, as well as the general public and public officials. Is responsible for the safe operation of equipment and vehicles.
Requirements
Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Card
Current and valid Class C Texas Driver’s license.
Current and valid Texas DSHS EMT-Paramedic certification.

The mission and purpose of this position are to compassionately deliver high-quality service and basic and advanced patient care in a professional, caring and cost –effective manner. The Paramedic works under the supervision of Operations and Clinical Managers. Provides advanced-level care and transportation of ill and injured patients as described and regulated by the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services via the authority of the Missouri Comprehensive Emergency Medical Services Systems Act (Chapter 190, Missouri Revised Statutes 190.010 –190.245).
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Performs all patient care skills at the level of a Missouri licensed EMT-Paramedic.
Assess each call situation to determine best course of action and appropriate protocol.
Utilize medical equipment and procedures including defibrillator, EKG monitor, oxygen and suction devices, intravenous fluids, CPR and other procedures and medications as required to provide advanced medical care.
Develop and utilize triage skills to provide optimal efficiency during calls.
Provide patient care according to clinical protocols and safety requirements.
Lift and move patients as required to provide optimum care.
Communicate with receiving facility to receive medical direction and to provide critical information.
Communicate with patient and loved ones to provide information and assurance that care is being given and to show compassion.
Act as team leader and take responsibility for scene management as needed.
Drive the ambulance safely or provide map reading support to minimize call response time
Keep current on certifications.
Communicate with dispatcher to receive and understand call data and customer feedback.
Monitor and maintain the general condition of the unit, keep it clean and stocked for optimal call response to maintain the image of REMSA.
Document activities completely to ensure appropriate information is available regarding each call. Provides complete documentation of patient care and other data necessary for completion of the Health EMS Patient Report Form.
Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of vehicle, supplies and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Missouri Paramedic license.
Current ALS License.
Class E Driver’s License.

This position directs a staff of sworn and non-sworn personnel in the delivery of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) utilizing practices, principles and techniques associated with pre-hospital emergency medicine. Provides department oversight of administration, operations, communications, staffing, mass casualty/disaster management, data collection and analysis, and records management.
The EMS Chief duties will include, but not be limited to:
Provides leadership and strategic direction in the operations and enhancement of emergency management services.
Provides oversight and leadership in community EMS initiatives, labor relations management, training and staff development, and support services.
Prioritizes and champions volunteer engagement, retention, recruitment, and professional development to sustain and grow the VB Rescue Volunteer Program and its availability to support City Council’s priorities and vision.
Monitors and oversees departmental budget and determines priorities.
Creates a culture of inclusion and collaboration and spearheads mental health and resiliency initiatives for career and volunteer members.
Utilizes feedback from organization, community meetings, citizens groups, voluntary organizations, and city leadership to enhance departmental and organizational effectiveness, community engagement,
volunteer/employee recruitment, and educational/outreach programs.
Provides recommendations to City Manager or designee on public safety program/policy challenges, innovations, and changes.
Compiles reports for the City Manager on issues and progress regarding vacancies and ambulance staffing through participation in the City’s VB Stat program, Department Performance Plans, and VB Strategic Planning process.
Partners with various city departments, federal agencies, community groups, voluntary agencies, and other internal/external stakeholders in support of operations, organizational strategic planning and
strategy.
Coordinates services and training to resolve public concerns or requests for service and facilitate equitable solutions.
Represents the City on emergency management issues and public safety related issues with external agencies and the media.

Requirements
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master’s degree in Emergency Medical Services, Public Administration/Business Administration, or similar program and six (6) years senior leadership/executive experience, or higher level education and experience equivalent to twelve (12) years in fields utilizing the knowledge, skills and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
Current Virginia or National Registry Paramedic certification.
Successful completion of a pre-employment physical and remain classified as fit for employment as a Paramedic by the Occupational Health Office.
Must refrain from using all tobacco products on and off the job.
Positions within this class will require work during inclement weather, regardless of the City’s operational status.
Individuals must successfully complete a Paramedic orientation program within one hundred twenty (120) days of hire date.
