*Baylor Scott & White Medical Center | 5701 Airport Road | Temple, Texas 76502* *Variable Shifts * ** *JOB SUMMARY* The Emergency Medical Tech – Paramedic administers efficient, rapid, quality care and transport to critically ill or injured patients in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. *ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE* * Provides critical care interventions and patient transport, in an independent capacity, to provide quality care to a varied patient population. * Operates ambulance in a safe and appropriate manner at all times. *

Performs patient assessments and evaluations effectively and promptly and institutes treatment plans that are prioritized appropriately and are within the scope of care guidelines as set forth by the Texas Department of Health Services (TDHS). * Evaluates the status of patients to monitor the effectiveness of interventions, and revises treatment plans promptly and effectively as necessary according to the changing needs of patients. *

Responds quickly to patients’ request for assistance with personal hygiene needs. * Documents and organizes patient care information accurately and thoroughly, with no more than 5% of service reports returned for completion. * Completes daily check list for assigned ambulances to ensure that the ambulance is maintained in a constant state of readiness to respond quickly to any emergency call. * Changes cot linen and removes soiled items, dirt and trash at the completion of each run. Notifies the appropriate personnel immediately when required supplies and equipment are not available for stocking the unit. *

Maintains the cleanliness and functionality of the cleaning, sleeping and crew quarter areas on a regular basis. Paramedic Education Faculty

SCOPE OF WORK: To educate students in Paramedic Education program and to provide leadership in the development and implementation of departmental and institutional activities that advance the mission of the college. This position reports to the Paramedic Program Coordinator at Lakes Region Community College. This is a grant-funded two-year appointment with the possibility of renewal pending funding in a 12 month contract appointment.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Teaches assigned academic courses in Paramedic Education or other courses as assigned in a classroom, laboratory, and/or clinical setting as appropriate for the academic program and supervises educational activities of students under actual or simulated situations;
  • Demonstrates teaching effectiveness through the development, modification, and evaluation of program curricula and instructional materials that comply with established course content, integrate theory with applications, clearly define course goals, observe the program and institutional accreditations standards, promote critical thinking and life skills, and respond to diverse academic needs; 
  • Maintains accessibility and availability to assist students with their learning needs and advises individuals or groups of students in academic matters relevant to the academic area of specialization and exercises professional judgment in referring students to appropriate personnel;
  • Supervisesstudent learning activities and academic progress and maintains accurate records of student progress and accomplishments per college policy and accreditation standards. Consults with and interprets these to students;
  • Assists with the selection, placement, and follow-up of students as appropriate;
  • Assists with program activities and operations to improve the effectiveness of instruction, developing and evaluating credit and non-credit programs and/or courses, mentoring faculty in subject area competency and instructional expertise, actively cultivating and maintaining collaborative relationships with business and industry within the field of instruction, and engaging in outreach to educational partners for the development and implementation of appropriate educational opportunities and articulation initiatives;  
  • Collaborates with Lead Instructor and Fire Technologies Department Chair in the planning, development, and implementation of college-sponsored recruitment and retention activities including career and job fairs, student orientations, registrations, and award ceremonies, and/or advising student activity groups, as assigned;
  • Engages in professional activities related to human service and connection to the program that partner the college with the wider community by serving on college or system teams, or participating in community-sponsored events, as assigned;
  • Remains technologically and pedagogically current within the teaching, research within emergency medicine through participation in relevant professional associations and educational & training activities. Utilizes appropriate instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching effectiveness and college operations/communication;
  • Serves on and leads college or system committees, as assigned;
  • Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations and demonstrates ethical and professional behavior;
  • Complies with all college, system, state, and federal rules and regulations; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in a nursing, health, education, biological sciences, or a related field. Possession of a bachelor’s degree in education shall require an Bachelor’s degree in a subject area closely related to nursing, emergency medical services, emergency medical technology, paramedic education, health sciences or a related field.

Experience: Three (3) years of teaching experience OR three (3) years of industry experience in nursing, emergency medical services, emergency medical technology, paramedic education, health sciences or a related field.

OR

Education:  Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university with major study in a nursing, health, education, biological sciences, or a related field. Possession of a bachelor’s degree in education shall require an Associate’s degree in a subject area closely related to nursing, emergency medical services, emergency medical technology, paramedic education, health sciences or a related field.

Experience: Four (4) years of teaching experience OR four (4) years of industry experience in nursing, emergency medical services, emergency medical technology, paramedic education, health sciences or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree with major study in a nursing, health, education, biological sciences, or a related field and three (3) years work experience as a Paramedic or Instructor.

License/Certification: Nationally Registered Paramedic, ability to obtain the following, PALS Instructor, ACLS Instructor, New Hampshire Paramedic license, and the ability to obtain New Hampshire Emergency Medical Services Instructor/Coordinator licensure.  Valid Driver’s License.

We are seeking Paramedic candidates to provide prehospital basic and advanced life support care and transport for the ill or injured throughout Volusia County. The preferred candidate, having met the minimum requirements, will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a paramedic in a 9-1-1 based system or Emergency Room (ER) setting. 

Paramedic (Full-Time) – Recruitment Bonus – $4,500.00

Hiring Range

TRAINEE PARAMEDIC :               $19.8817  Hourly

CLEARED PARAMEDIC:               $22.4993 Hourly

Experience Pay for new hires with verified pre-hospital related experience:

1 to 2 years full-time experience = 1% above starting rate

3 to 5 years full-time experience = 2% above starting rate

6+ years full-time experience = 4% above starting rate

Shift Differential

Employees assigned will receive an additional $1.25 per hour for hours worked between 10pm and 4am which will increase to $1.85 per hour on October 1, 2023.

Note:  All Paramedics will be in a trainee status and paid accordingly until they are cleared by the Volusia County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director and cleared to function as a lead paramedic on a VCEMS ambulance through the internal clearing process.

  • Perform assessment and treatment consistent with the United States Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum for Emergency Medical Technician – Basic and Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic pursuant to and in accordance with standing orders promulgated by the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director or his or her designee.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment utilized for pre-hospital assessment and care.
  • Operates vehicles in accordance with state law and prevailing standards.
  • Acquires, manages, and protects privileged health information in accordance with state and federal laws.
  • Performs timely medical and billing documentation accurately and comprehensibly to ensure completion of the record of patient care and, when present, provides evidence of medical necessity for purposes of billing.
  • Prepares and completes other reports and documents as necessary (e.g. controlled substance accountability logs, etc.).
  • Maintains all credentials required by the state and the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Medical Director.
  • Provides direction to the Emergency Medical Technicians.
  • Testifies in court (e.g. murder trial, DUI, chain of custody) and gives depositions.
  • May provide clinical oversight and written evaluations for students/trainees from affiliated emergency medical service training programs.
  • Interacts with patients, coworkers, peers, other health care providers, and the public in a professional and considerate manner.
  • Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • Responds to all emergency situations as directed.
  • Must adhere to all Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
  • May be assigned to other locations based upon operational needs.
