What is the difference between Paramedic and Charge Paramedic?

Paramedic is entry level and is interchangeable with an EMT on an ALS transport unit.

Charge Paramedic is the lead on an ALS transport unit. Minimum of two (2) years of working experience as a paramedic in an ALS 911 system required.

Works under the direction of the Charge Paramedic.  Must pass department approved Agility Test. Must pass DOT Physical. *Note: Safety Sensitive position requires random drug testing.

This classification performs technical work in the provision of advanced emergency medical care and transportation under direction of a physician, by written protocol or direct communication, provides advanced emergency medical care (Advanced Life Support – ALS) for the sick and injured as defined in Florida Statute and Florida Administrative Code and local Medical Director authored protocols. Work requires extensive knowledge in Basic and Advanced Emergency Medical Care, Incident Command Management (ICS), basic rescue procedures, Basic Hazardous Materials Response, Emergency Vehicle Operations, patient handling techniques, Critical Incident Stress Management, thorough knowledge of the geography of Manatee County, and the ability to direct the work of others. Must pass department approved Agility Test.  Must pass DOT Physical. *Note: Safety Sensitive position requires random drug testing.

Under general supervision, incumbents in this position will perform work of moderate difficulty related to providing basic and advanced life support emergency and non-emergency medical care and transportation of the sick and injured; and performs related duties as assigned. The Paramedic Ambulance Operator is a non-fire suppression position in the fire department.

Position Information:

Selected incumbents will start at the first step of the salary range in accordance with the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) contract.

This position will work a 4-day, 38-hour work-week (Subject to change based on operational needs).

Selected incumbents will need to successfully complete an HFD Paramedic Academy and Internship

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school or the equivalent

Two (2) years of experience as a paramedic

Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483

Must possess a Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD), State of Nevada, National Registry Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic Certificate or a Paramedic Certificate from another state at time of application and successfully obtain and maintain a Southern Nevada Health District Paramedic Attendant’s License within six (6) months of employment as a condition of continued employment

Must successfully complete the Henderson Fire Department Paramedic Internship within the time limits established by the department as a condition of continued employment

Must successfully complete probationary requirements as established by the department as a condition of continued employment

Desirable: Current paramedic licensure through the SNHD

Desirable: ACLS/PALS/EMS Instructors certification

Desirable: Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in Paramedicine, Fire Science, Biology, Anatomy, or a closely related field

OB DESCRIPTION

Respond to both 911 calls and requests for transports.  (About 75% are 911 calls / 25% transports)

Provide patient care and transport at the paramedic level.

Document patient care in accordance with current requirements.

Clean and restock ambulance as needed.

BENEFITS

Starting wage is around $60,000/yr based on the above schedule.

48 hours vacation after the first year; 96 hours after the second year; 144 hours after 10 years.

Requirements

Must have current Wisconsin state paramedic license, CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications.  (PALS can be done within the first month of being hired – we provide the training if needed).

Work California Swing Shift (24 on, 24 off; 24 on, 24 off; 24 on, 96 off).
