AEMT HIRING HOURLY RATE: $20.10

EMT HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $19.52 – $20.10

Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be able to: drive an emergency vehicle; have excellent communications skills (in person, over the radio/telephone, and written); work varying shift schedules including day shift, night shift, hybrid shifts including weekends and holidays; perform a wide variety of duties with accuracy and speed under pressure; provide patient care to the respective certification level; follow safety protocols and perform in a safe manner; able to understand navigation equipment and tools, including maps, and be able find locations within our response area; perform calmly in emergency situations; and other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Required certifications and licensure: (please attach to your application)

National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Paramedic Certification

Ability to possess and maintain a South Carolina Paramedic, AEMT, or EMT Certification

BLS (AHA or ASHI)

High School Diploma or GED (College degree or transcript may be used)

ICS course certifications 100, 200, 700 and 800 (Required within 3 months of hire)

Paramedic Candidates also need:

ACLS (AHA or ASHI)

ITLS or PHTLS or TECC (preferred)

PEPP or PALS or EPC (preferred)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge must include but is not limited to, laws and regulations of US DOT, FCC, DEA and SCDHEC in regard to the practice of emergency medical services, vehicle extrication and rescue principles, patient stabilization, medical terminology, and defensive driving techniques.

EMT, AEMT, and Paramedics are responsible for providing life support care up to their certification level.  All employees are responsible for communicating appropriately, ensuring the readiness of vehicles and equipment, maintaining uniforms and stations, attending training, and following safety and medical guidelines.

What You’ll Do as a Paramedic:

Provide emergency medical care and advanced life support at emergency and accident scenes which may include defibrillation, clearing airways, pulmonary ventilation, intubations, inserting IVs, splinting fractures, treating burns, emergency surgical procedures, performing CPR and administering medication; inform physicians of patient conditions. 

Performs activities required for and directly concerned with the prevention, control, or extinguishment of fires, including such incidental non-firefighting functions as housekeeping, equipment maintenance, lecturing, attending community fire drills, and inspecting buildings for fire hazards.

Assume responsibility for EMS scene in the absence of higher level staff.

Prepare, submit and maintain reports on EMS activities, incidents, accidents and other related information.

Perform station maintenance; identify deficiencies in equipment and quarters; correct deficiencies when possible or report to station officer.

Operate, inspect and maintain emergency response equipment and vehicles.

Obtain medical data including patient identification, medical history, type of accident or nature of illness, rescue measures preceding emergency care, care given at the scene and during transport and changes in diagnostic signs.

Participate in drills, training exercises, classes, and activities including but not limited to those related to emergency medical service, fire and other related areas.

Maintain skill levels, new equipment and procedure familiarization, and certifications which are relevant and/or required for assigned responsibilities.

Participate in public relations, fire/safety education activities, and fire prevention activities including station tours, fire safety/fire suppression education away from the station, school education programs, group activities, fire drills courtesy walk-through visits, and phone inquiries.

Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

Possession of, or the ability to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Possession of a valid National Registry EMT Paramedic or State of Colorado EMT-P certificate.

Possession of CPR certificate,  upon hire.

Possession of a valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support certificate.

Possession of a Pediatric Advanced Life Support or Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers certificate.

Possession of certification in the National Incident Management System.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, Hazardous Materials Awareness certificate.

Possession of, or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid Driver Operator certificate.

Must be able to distinguish red and green.

Must successfully complete a Candidate Level NFPA – 1582 Physical.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Must be 18 years of age at time of hire.

Experience and Training Guidelines for a Paramedic:

Two (2) years of experience in emergency medical services, preferred.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; supplemented by the ability to complete specialized training in emergency medical services.

About Us: Waterbury Ambulance Service Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing exceptional 911 emergency medical response to Waterbury, Duxbury, parts of Moretown, and surrounding communities through mutual aid. Supported by over 30 volunteers, two full-time paid staff, and several per-diem employees, we respond to an average of 800 emergency calls per year. We also offer community training programs, operate COVID-19 testing and vaccination clinics, and provide Search & Rescue services for remote and mountainous areas.

Position Overview: As the Executive Director, you will lead Waterbury Ambulance Service Inc., ensuring operational excellence, financial stability, and a high standard of emergency medical services. You will report directly to the Board of Trustees and manage a team of paid staff and volunteers to fulfill our mission. This role requires a dynamic leader with a strong background in emergency medical services and nonprofit management.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management:

Execute the Board of Trustees’ instructions and priorities.

Oversee and support all staff and volunteers.

Manage all operations to ensure readiness and efficiency.

Oversee recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of staff and volunteers.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.

Implement and maintain HR policies and procedures in compliance with legal requirements.

Manage staff scheduling, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts.

Promote a positive and inclusive work environment, addressing any conflicts or issues promptly.

Facilitate ongoing training and professional development opportunities for staff.

Financial Oversight:

Maintain and manage the organizational budget.

Monitor expenditures and adjust spending as needed.

Prepare and submit grants and contracts to funding agencies.

Ensure accurate billing and accountability of services.

Communication and Coordination:

Emergency Response:

Requirements

Qualifications:

Five years of non-profit Executive Director experience or equivalent.

Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, QuickBooks, Donor Database Software.

Experience overseeing annual operating budget.

Ability to manage budgets, financial records, and grants.

Current NREMT Certified Paramedic or AEMT, and Current State of Vermont licensed Paramedic or AEMT.

High performance CPR, AHA BLS Instructor, Stop the Bleed, ACLS, and PEPP certifications within 6 months.
