Name: Celeste Cardy

Skill Level: EMT-Basic

Service Provider: Navajo Nation EMS

Motivation and Inspiration: I am inspired by the Navajo Nation Fire Department. You can be a firefighter and EMS at the same time. So, the people that were in Navajo Nation Fire Department in Window Rock, Arizona, have been great people and staff that just willing to work with you on a daily basis.

It’s not just them that expand my mind. The Ganado Fire District of Ganado, Arizona, are wonderful and very professional. They have paid some of classes, including my EMT classes at Northland Pioneer College. The fire department made me a better person.

I have been an EMT for 11 years. The community I serve is the Navajo Nation Reservation, of Fort Defiance, Arizona. I started working with the Navajo Nation EMS at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s personal to me since I lost my brother to the virus, yet I still continue on to do my duty as an EMT.

My family has pushed me to do better and to be a person as a daughter, as sister, aunt, mother and friend. They inspire me to keep going forward to be a paramedic in the future.
