Seven Hurt in San Francisco Van, Light Rail Crash

SAN FRANCISCO – Seven people are hospitalized after San Francisco police say a van made an illegal turn and collided with a Municipal Railway light-rail train.

A police spokesman says four people inside the van were hurt, while three people on the Muni train were hurt in the collision around 7:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Officer Samson Chan did not have details on the nature of the injuries, but said the three train passengers and two people inside the van did not suffer what would be considered life threatening injuries.

Two others in the van appeared to have more serious injuries.

The name of the van driver has not been released, but Chan says he’s being investigated for suspicion of driving under the influence after officers found an open container of alcohol in the van.
