Salt Lake City (UT) EMT Instructor Charged with Sexual Abuse of Students

Salt Lake City Fire Department Captain Christopher David Burk has been charged with sexually abusing two students in his capacity as EMT instructor at a local community college.

ABC 4 reports Burk faces six counts of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse and one count of third-degree felony attempted forcible sexual abuse, according to court records filed in the Third District Court.

Authorities say Burk used his position of trust as both a paramedic instructor and firefighter to prey on his victims. The Salt Lake City Fire Department confirmed Wednesday that a firefighter, without naming Burk, had been placed on administrative leave amid misconduct allegations.

According to court documents, the first complaint against Burk surfaced in October 2024 when a student at the community college reported to Sandy City police that she was sexually assaulted after Burk asked her to stay after class for extra training. A second student came forward in January 2025.
