RI EMT Suspended for Failure to Submit Patient Reports

pascoag fire department patch

The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) has suspended EMT James H. Williams Jr. for failing to properly submit 47 patient care reports over a one-year period.

Williams, employed as a Pascoag Fire Department Firefighter/EMT-Cardiac, agreed to a 14-day suspension of his license and additional disciplinary measures, GoLocalProv reports.

According to RIDOH documents, the violations occurred between May 1, 2023, and May 28, 2024. Williams reportedly failed to file electronic patient care reports (ePCRs) after patient contact and neglected to obtain required signatures for care refusals. Additionally, he allowed junior healthcare providers to document 24 patient care reports where he was the primary provider.

RIDOH has emphasized that disciplinary actions against EMTs are rare in Rhode Island. Williams is prohibited from providing emergency medical services during the suspension, which takes effect following RIDOH’s approval of the consent order.
