N.Y. Officers Treated for Shock after Courthouse Shooting

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. (AP) – Authorities say a 43-year-old man has died after being wounded by officers during a gunfight at an upstate New York courthouse. A court officer was wounded.

Middletown police say the gunman went to the vestibule at City Court at about 9 a.m. Wednesday and fired at the security officers. They returned fire, hitting him at least once.

A state court system spokesman says the man later died. They identified him as Timothy Mulqueen of Middletown.

Officials say Mulqueen had a case pending in court, but details weren’t immediately available.

They say Mulqueen was armed with a 12-gauge shotgun and numerous rounds of ammunition. A court officer suffered a graze wound to his arm.

The spokesman says two other officers were taken to a hospital for treatment for shock.
