Detroit Man Survives 14-Story Fall from Apartment Building

DETROIT – A man is recovering after falling 14 floors out of a Detroit building Monday.

Witness Irby Ferguson said he found the man laying flat on his back in a grassy area outside the Regency Towers on Chene Court and was shocked when the man told him he had just fallen out a bedroom window.

“He said, ‘Help me up.’ And I said, ‘No, I can’t help you up. Just sit tight,'” Ferguson said.

Resident Dana Kemp said she didn’t see the man fall but heard it.

“My windows were open, so it was real windy. I heard a loud boom. I thought it was a car accident,” she said. “I finally opened up my window and looked down. I saw a body laying there and I was like, ‘Oh my God.’ It was scary. I’m glad he’s OK.”

Neighbors said the man lives in an apartment with his mother.

He was taken to an area hospital. His condition is unknown.

Detroit police said an investigation is under way to determine what caused the man to fall.
